Christmas, Gingerbread houses, Snowmen, and Prison

We had a great Christmas. Santa came (and yes, in case you were wondering, Zadyn is glad he didn't stay). He left the presents downstairs this year, which was convenient for Avery's 8:15 wake-up call. The kids had a blast playing with their presents from Santa. Avery got two Matchbox 360 pop-ups (a pirate and a haunted house). Kyler got a new tool bench (complete with a take-apart motor and car). Zadyn got a complete baby care station (with washing machine, ironing board, and stove). Ryker got a castle (with blocks that fit nicely in his mouth). Mom got a lovely set of lotion and Dad got the "Passage to Zarahelma" DVD. We dined on bananas from our stockings (Ryker got banana baby food -- that Santa is pretty smart). Then we had a great time opening presents and playing with all our new goodies! After all our chaos of gifts were finished, we had our traditional Christmas lunch of BBQ'd bacon hamburgers, potato salad and deviled eggs. It was cold and snowing, but Grant still braved the cold and cooked out on the grill. That is one tradition the kids LOVE!

Grandma and Grandpa Orr came to visit on the 30th and they will be here through Sunday. Grant and George are working on taping and mudding the room formerly known as the craft room. It will be Avery's new room once they are done and I have a chance to paint it. I think we will be hiring out the rest of the basement when the time comes. We were able to take a break this morning and make Gingerbread houses. The kids had a great time and probably ate more candy than they put on the houses. They turned out really cute.

With all the snow we've gotten, the kids have been having a blast playing outside. We built a snowman last week.

Now that Ryker is mobile, we have had a few stair scares. So, this week, Grant installed a gate at the top of the stairs. It has been great, eased my mind about his crawling around that house. His favorite place to crawl to is under the piano to play with the pedals, or in the kitchen under the table. He is definitely a mover and he doesn't seem to mind being in prison!

Some very fun traditions and great times...So excited you are getting your rooms done downstairs and that you could have Kim and George there with you for a visit. We have lots of snow, too, but nobody around here plays in it or builds anything....alas!
