Is there an echo in here?

Avery went in for his throat procedure (the Micro Direct Larynzascopy with Excision -- that's for you Cameron). All went well. We got up at 6 in the morning, left shortly after and made the 30 minute drive to St. Patrick's Hospital in Missoula. We checked in and waited out turn. They called us back to pre-op around 7:30 where the paper work and consent forms were done. We waited for an hour before the anesthesiologist came to give Avery the happy juice. The throat doctor, Dr. Haller, came and talked with us about the procedure. They took Avery back to the operating room around 8:30. A little after nine, Dr. Haller came to the waiting room and told me how it went. The flap of skin was REALLY REALLY REALLY small. A lot smaller than he originally anticipated. So, he went ahead and lasered it because he was there. He doesn't know for sure, given the size of it, if that is what is causing the breathing issues when Avery gets sick or not. We will have to wait until Avery is sick to find out. But, at least it won't cause any other problems down the road.
I had to wait another 45 minutes until Avery was finally waking up. He did really well coming out of the anesthesia. The first 15 minutes were like a broken record. This is how our conversation went:

Avery: "Did they put me to sleep already?"
Me: "Yes."
Avery: "No they didn't!"
Me: "Yes they did."
Avery: "Oh, did I have my surgery already?"
Me: "Yes"
Avery: "They didn't put me to sleep yet?"
Me: "Yes they did, you are all done."
Avery: "I had my surgery already?"
Me: "Yes, Avery, you are done."
Avery: "But they didn't put me to sleep!"

By this time it was pointless to continue, so I let it go. He did ask me a couple more times when they were going to start his surgery. He came out of the groggy state pretty quickly. Since the procedure ended up being less invasive and quicker than they thought, we were able to come home today. We ended up leaving the hospital at 11 am. Avery was hungry and the doctor told him he could eat and drink anything he wanted, his throat shouldn't hurt much after today. So, he talked me into stopping at McDonald's for a Mighty Kids Meal of a double cheeseburger, apple dippers and a chocolate milk shake. I even let him play on the toys since he was the only one there. We got home a little after noon and Avery played and watched a little TV. He was NOT happy that he didn't get to stay over night, but I think we made up for it by putting the travel TV in his room this afternoon and letting him "rest" and watch movies. He says his throat is feeling fine and doesn't hurt. We have to keep a close eye on him over night and then take him back to Dr. Haller next week for a follow up. Avery did great and we're glad that it is done and he is home.

Sounds like he's growing up to be a big boy now. All brave and what not.
I love being drugged. It's good to hear that I am not the only one who gets alittle "loopy."

Way to go Avery, glad that you were able to stop for a fun lunch and be spoiled with movies in your room. We so hope that when you get sick again, you won't get the scary breathing thing. Love and miss you!
